Based on 163 reviewsThe Pickle Room in Santa Barbara is widely praised for its distinctive old-school ambiance, blending dim lighting with vintage décor inspired by its origins as Jimmy’s Oriental Gardens. Patrons frequently highlight the bar’s cozy atmosphere, enhanced by unique Asian design elements and a welcoming, lively vibe. The cocktail menu receives consistent acclaim for its inventive twists on classics like the Negroni and Old Fashioned, alongside signature drinks that pack a flavorful punch. Food offerings, though secondary to the drinks, are noted for their quality and creative flair, with items like pastrami egg rolls and Italian beef standing out. Exceptional, friendly service and a strong sense of community further contribute to its reputation as a beloved local hotspot with a timeless charm.
Old-school, dimly-lit, bar and booth cocktail bar, dense with atmosphere. Make new friends while sitting on vinyl cushioned stools at the bar, or join old friends in a booth. The cocktails include distinctive takes on traditional mixes such as the Negroni and Old Fashioned, plus signature concoctions - all with a kick. We didn’t try the food but the menu was extensive. A place for locals and visitors but missed by most tourists as it’s a block away from the State Street tourist traps. The service is unpretentious, welcoming and classy.
Cozy, old school bar. Asian influences. Beautiful gold walls and the pagoda roof over the bar harkens back to its roots as Jimmy’s Oriental Gardens.
Officially my favorite place in Santa Barbara. Love the original “Jimmy’s Oriental Gardens” decor. Katherine and Darcy (sorry if either misspelled) provided attentive, genuinely friendly, and overall outstanding service. Frickles + Pickletini were the best I’ve ever had. Mozz nuggs were also perfectly fried. As a Chicago transplant, I was even impressed with the delicious Italian beef. I had high expectations for this place and they exceeded them. So so impressed!!!
Fun Killer place. Cool vibes with great jazz music filtering in the back. Dave the bartender was great talking too. He served up his handcrafted beverages and even served our food outside with speed. We spent our Halloween late night adventure after our fun ghost tour next door. The pastrami egg rolls dipped in homemade horseradish sauce was a surprise hit. Zucchini was crispy and made fresh too. I cannot wait to go back.
Best bar in SB. Great drinks! Bartender Darren is my guy. Been going for years. Thanks Pickle Room!
Premium quality cocktails, old school atmosphere. Unexpectedly pleasant dive bar off the beaten path
The Pickle Room is a "must visit" to enjoy an old-school Santa Barbara bar. I have no idea how I've lived in SB so many years without visiting the Pickle Room. It enjoys a prominent spot downtown in a well-known historical building. It is surprisingly small. There is a bar and a handful of booths. Upon entry, you are hit by the red color and intimate size of the place. We visited on a slow night and shared the space with locals and tourists. The drinks were all good and the service was friendly enough. I would not call the Pickle Room a dive. Leave those boring fern bars behind and try an SB original. We will return.
i love the pickle room. this is kinda an apology i was embarrassingly drunk and kept calling the bartenders daddy but they were so kind and so nice
